My husband and I are two new recent cub scout volunteers over the Wolfs. And it has been quite a learning experience. I had previously known nothing about scouts until I was thrown in. My husband is an eagle scout but that was a long time ago. But we are loving it! The eight year old boys are just so excited about everything and it really rubs off on us den leaders.
The biggest challenge we have faced is getting the parents involved in helping pass stuff off at home that we are not able to do at meetings. Two of the hardest achievements to get your cub scouts accomplished is the tracking charts for Achievement 3a and 4e which is Healthy Habits and A Family Chore Chart so I decided to try and make it as easy as possible by combining them in this calendar printable. I hope this helps you guys as much as it has helped us.
Healthy Habits Wolf Cub Scout Lesson:
So we ended up making the whole next Den meeting about Healthy habits. As Scouts arrived we had another fun printable that is kind of like Mad Libs but with a fun cooking story for them to fill out and keep busy called “Cook Off Craze”. Then I mixed around their answers and read out loud the funny story. They got a big kick out of that.
After opening exercises we headed outside to play a super fun Food pyramid game that got the boys active and provided lots of opportunities to talk about nutrition. (Achievement 8a)
Then we ended the den meeting by handing out the Healthy Habits tracking sheets and going over what they needed to do to fill them out and by enjoying this really great/easy healthy snack.
Apples and Yogurt Dip

About six apples

1/2 of a 8oz container of whipped topping
Mix the whip cream and the yogurt, slice of the apples and there you go! Your scouts will inhale these!
