Easy Bird Feeder Craft

October 3, 2012
This is a fantastic quick and easy craft that has so many fun possibilities. For starters it only cost me $5 for a huge bag of bird seed and the rest of the stuff I already had at home. We made about 30 of these and still had half a bag left. These would make great gifts especially for Christmas neighbor presents on a really small budget. These are shaped using cookie cutters so you are only limited by the supply of cookie cutters you have. I think these would be cute using a large snowflake cutter for Christmas.
(makes about 10-15 per batch)
Need:
4 C. bird seed
3/4 C. flour
1/2 C.water
3 TBS of corn syrup
paper plate, or wax paper
stick (for making hole)
cookie cutters
string/ribbon/yarn
non-stick spray
1. Mix seed, flour, water, and corn syrup in large bowl until well mixed
2. Place cookie cutter down on paper plate or wax paper. Spray cookie cutter insides with non-stick spray.
3. Scoop seed mixture and press mixture firmly into the cookie cutter, filling it tightly. Use stick to make a hole where the string will go into later when dried.(don’t be afraid to swirl stick around a little bit to create a bigger hole) Lift cookie cutter away to start a new bird feeder mole.
4. Let mold dry overnight (about 4 to 6 hours)

Once you get the hang of it you will be able to make one of these in about two minutes. Also you can dry them faster is you are in a hurry by putting them in the oven on 200 f. for 30 minutes on a baking sheet.
