Fabric Tic Tac Toe/Checkers Board -Tutorial (Featured Guest Bloggers)

Just to let you know a little about us.  We are sisters and the best of friends.  Tiffany is the mom to a one year old little boy and Melissa is the mom to an 18 month old little boy.  Even though we live on different sides of the U.S., we have a lot of the same hobbies.  We both love to sew, bake, and hang out with our families.  We love to make things for our boys and to play with them too.

 

I decided to make something that my son and I could play with. He is still young to play with it, but he enjoys pulling it out of his toy chest and just carrying it around. 

I made a Tic Tac Toe and Checkers board that we can play with together. I wanted a large size board so that it would be fun to sprawl out on the floor and play together.

I started out making the checkers squares. I cut them 4 x 4 inches.  I cut 32 of each light and dark blue cotton. 

I then pieced the blocks together every other color. I pieced 8 colors in rows and then sewed the rows together.

After I made the checkers side, I turned it over and I cut the royal blue out. I didn’t measure it exactly, but went off of the approximate size of the completed checkers squares.

I then laid down ribbon to for the tic tac toes squares.  

I had a helper too.

After pinning and sewing the ribbons, I turned it and sewed again.

For those of you who would like to make one of these, I would definitely recommend ric rac instead of ribbon.

I then sewed the two large pieces right sides together with batting in the middle and then turned it right side out.

Before sewing it shut, I inserted some ribbon to hold it all together.

Now my son and I are using chocolate and original animal crackers as our game pieces.  We don’t usually finish a game. Yet.

My favorite thing about this neat project is that its reversible! Plus you can throw it in the wash if your kids spill stuff on it. I currently do not have a board game that can do that! This is such a clever idea that just about anyone can do. Thank you Melissa and Tiffany so much for all the time and effort you put into this post.
